KPN Ventures, the venture capital investment arm of KPN, announced today it led a 2.5 million Series A funding round in Dimenco with the Brabant Development Agency (BOM).
Dimenco, the world’s leading spatial visualization technology company, revealed earlier this year its Simulated Reality (“SR”) display for laptops that will start shipping early Q4 2021, based on the fully developed Built on SR technology. Simulated Reality is a new form of spatial computing that combines lenticular light-field computer vision, integrated sensors, and image processing algorithms, to seamlessly experience realistic 3D objects in a virtual environment, without the need for any wearables.
This investment of KPN Ventures and the BOM enables Dimenco to further scale its activities to fulfill the growing demand of their customers and to further expand the simulated reality eco-system to become the spatial visualization technology standard in the market. With KPN Ventures now on board, and KPN as a leading Telco, it’s an additional acknowledgment of the value of SR and the need for a wearable-free XR technology.
“KPN Ventures foresees an important role for 5G, and an ever increasing demand for bandwidth, in the Simulated Reality market – XR without wearables. With the first consumer products of Dimenco licensees in the market end of this year, starting with the Acer Spatiallabs laptop and many to follow in 2022, we are very optimistic about the opportunities that our partnership with this innovative Dutch company will bring. We see a great benefit for KPN customers when using SR laptops, with our high bandwidth networks, in their daily work environments in the creative, manufacturing, gaming and health industries.”
Hans Söhngen, Managing Director KPN Ventures
This investment will take the Dutch development of spatial display technology to the next level. Furthermore, it supports totally new ways of design and development. The development of Dimenco generates jobs and new knowledge. With this investment we also encourage new financiers to follow our example.
"Dimenco works closely with its partners, suppliers, and developers to bring Simulated Reality to the mass market. Dimenco’s initial proposition is focused on content creators, designers, and engineers and Dimenco continues to work closely with its partners to bring the first Simulated Reality Gaming products to market in 2022."
Miriam Dragstra, CEO BOM
"Our Series A enables us to further scale up our activities and to Implement our vision of Simulated Reality; creating an experience that you cannot distinguish from reality. With first consumer products coming to market, it is now essential to speed up our developments and scale-up the supply chain”
Maarten Tobias CEO of Dimenco
